I dont think this is spoily. Space just in case.

My High Elven Mindcrafter is now level 12, Le: 17 and 100 Literacy. However,
Ive had a total of 4 books now and so far, all they do is confuse, stun or
blind me, make me fall into a pit or explode in a ball of flames.

I just dont get it. Im sure the answer is an obvious one or one Ive heard
before. I dont have any Doomed/Cursed state and Im currently Lucky.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Im doing well, especially for a
Mindcrafter. Busy in the UD having just found a Ironfist and an Altar...
thanks to which I found out that I have a Blessed Ring of Djinni Summoning,
will come in handy shortly I guess.

As would be expected for mindcrafters. Mindcraft and traditional
magic are not compatible in ADOM. See the manual.

Mindcrafters are useless at learning spells.

Mindcrafters aren't supposed to read books, they are supposed to use
mindcraft. A spellcasting mindcrafter would be an incredibly powerful
character.

Mindcrafters are, at their core, fighters. The weak starting
armour/weapon are deceptive. The weakness requires, at the start,
guerilla tactics. And these involve mindcraft. Later on, mindcraft is
"gravy."

Try a more physical approach.

Gameplaywise? Definitely. In terms of real life time? Depends on
yourself. Single live-sac crownings aren't too frustrating to achieve,
I personally go for at least one in every game when I'm playing ADOM.
I've seen posts in the past from others who wouldn't touch live-saccing
with a 10-foot pole, seeing it as so tedious as to be beyond even
mentioning, beyond even consideration.

It depends a little bit on the altar's location. UD:5 ain't so bad,
though there are better places (the ultimate is perhaps PC:5).

Lawful altars are the least frustrating, chaotic second least (because
they're much more dangerous), neutral the most. I tend to convert
neutral altars before doing a sacfest; the Hotzenplotz quest helps
here (build archery, come up with lots of missiles and start
mindblasting and plinking until there's nothing left standing).

I knew the answer was simple. I just couldnt put my finger on what the
answer was.

PP's in the early stages seem so low its impossible to get too far. My
willpower is only around 16-17 so my mindcrafting is pretty weak. The evil
of all characters, Elven Summoners, seem to take joy from mercilessly
resisting my attempts to make their heads implode.

Would it be worth me sitting in ~UD: 5 and saccing every monster I come
accross to become (pre)crowned? The random chance for a decently powerful
weapon or something which could make me a lot stronger (Preserver please!)
is quite tempting.
