Problem signature 6 1 7600 16385

Hello,
I have a Thinkpad running Windows 7. For a while now I've been using it safe mode to get around really poor performance - I guessed it had caught something.
A couple of days ago it started to "blue screen" with the error "unmountable boot volume". Running the repair option at start time gives other information, notably Problem Signatures 1 & 2 are 6.1.7600.16385, #3 - unknown, #4 - 221, #5 Autofailover, #6 - 1, #7 - NoRootCause. OS version is 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

This computer is one my son bought through his school and we did not get any distribution or other media.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Got a friend with a win 7 cd ? Without it, well not much to say.

Read through this post, may help you. Sometimes automatic windows update is not too friendly. If you can still get into safe mode (with networking) download malwarebytes free and do a scan. Scan also with your anti virus.

You can run a bootable CD with an antivirus scanner.
