WINXP Pro AMD 1700 xp 512mb SDRAM

Recently when trying boot up my computer first thing in the morning it has
taken up to 8 goes to get it started.
It starts the usual checking and quite quickly re boots then comes up with a
chioce of start windows normally, last knowen good config. , safe mode, etc.
I click start normally and off it goes rebooting, gets a bit further down
the boot process and reboots. Comes back to choices again. I hit last known
good config and it reboots and gets a bit further....etc. It will get to
first WINXP screen with users on it but then reboots from there. Finally
makes it after about 8 tries. Sometimes switches power right off and I have
to turn power off at mains, wait, switch mains power back on to get it to
switch on!!! A bit of a sick computer!!

Finally gets booted and is then troubl free. Have tried pushing/wriggling
all installed cards plugs , sdram, etc.

Is this a hardware or software problem or both? Would a clean install fix?

Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

Same thing as I told you in your last post.

Try reinstalling DirectX and Windows Media Player.

Sorry, I read the first sentance and thought you were reasking the same
question.

I would suggest trying a different power supply. Also, are you able to
go into the BIOS and check the temperature? Try setting the BIOS back
to default and see if that helps too. If it is XP, you may want to try
a repair operation by booting off your XP CD, choosing to Install, then
press R to repair it.
