Problem with CPU temps

Hi,

I've got a 5820K CPU with a Corsair H100i GTX cooler. It is in a fulltower Obsidian 750D case. everything works fine, but my temps are a bit high....

I had to redo the thermal paste, because I lifted the H100i when installing.. I only used a pea sized blob the size between a BB-bullet and an actual pea.

Now my idle temps were around 40 degrees celsius. I thought that was a bit high.. The screws around the cooler were a bit loose, so I tightened it with a screwdriver and the temps dropped 7 degrees.... Now it is 33 degrees, (room temp is 25 degrees, it is a bit hot..) Is this normal?

The thing is...when I just SLIGHTLY push the cooler a bit more to the CPU with my fingers, the temps drop to 27-28 degrees....

What do I have to do?

That's the right amount of thermal paste.

That is totally normal to be in the low 30Cs when idle. Stop pushing on the cooler pump/heatsink (over the CPU) or you'll eventually mess up the socket.

Turn off the PC and make sure the cooler is snug. Finger tightening is usually sufficient. Tighten opposite corners the same amount of turns until snug.

That's actually pretty awesome, but that test is more for the GPU. Try running the prime95 heat test and that will give you the true CPU cooler test after about 10 minutes of running it.

oh my........ Im a idiot...... It is my first build and I accidentally picked the wrong screws for the watercooler bracket...... Now I goy the right ones, thermal paste again, etc, etc. and My temps are 15 degrees lower..... Because now the cooler actually MAKES CONTACT with the CPU....haha
