Does anyone know what could be the problem here? Incompatibility? mobo defect?

I have 2 azenram 512meg pc2700 chips of ram. I have the Asus p4p800 motherboard. I put the ram in the two blue slot as recommended in the user manual of asus and it still says single channel or virtual single channel in the bios while booting.

I tried the two black slots instead as they say should work too...nogo.

The ram comes from a friend who had it in his gigabyte mobo and it was running in dual channel.

I checked with aida32 and it sees both chips as the same.

Currently the bios is set to auto detect it. I tried specifying the values manually but ended up not booting nomore.

Anyone can give me any tips on what I can do?

I'm sure I'll be corrected promptly if I'm wrong, but I belive dual-channel ram starts at PC3200. PC3200 = 400 Mhz X 2 = 800Mhz FSB (which is the ONLY FSB that takes dual channel memory - at least in P4 systems). From what I know, you can't buy slower dual channel memory than PC3200.

Nah, you can run PC2100 in dual channel mode, with a 533 bus P4. I think the chipset only does dual channel at synchronous or lower memory speeds.
