Question problem with external m.2 to usb adapter reading 2tb and 4tb ssd's

I have a usb to m.2 external adapter that reads my 512MB ssd with no problem. When I place a 2TB or 4TB ssd in adapter, my software sees the drives but within 2-3 minutes the larger SSD's will no longer bee recognized. A google search suggested the problem could be that the larger capacity SSD's could not get enough power from the USB ports and and suggested purchasing an adapter with its own power supply . Problem is, I haven't found an adapter that has a separate power supply for the usb.

Try different usb ports on the pc.
Try different usb cables.
Don't allow turning off usb power......device manager.
