Hi, so my mouse stopped working all of a sudden, it was working properly until the cursor started moving like crazy on its own and after a couple of minutes. After that the movement stopped and i cannot move it but i can press right and left click on my pc. I tried a different mouse and it worked fine, so I thought the sensor gave out and i went to buy a new one and i got the same exact one. I come home i plug it in and the same thing is happening I can pres left and right click but the sensor seems not to work. Is it a problem with some kind of drivers, a Windows problem, or something else ?

MAYBE the driver software got mixed up somehow. You can re-install it and see if that helps. This sequence of steps.

1. Get machine running normally with one of your mice connected. Using the search window on bottom left type in Device Manger and it will pop up.

2. Click on "Mice and other pointing devices" to expand, and RIGHT-click on your mouse. Choose Uninstall Device, then back out to main screen.

3. Shut down and unplug your mouse so there are NO mice connected.

4. Boot up and wait for it to finish. Now plug your mouse back in normally. The system should detect that a new device has been connected and load the correct driver for that, notifying you by a small pop-up window. Now see if your mouse works.

5. IF the re-connected mouse is NOT detected immediately and a driver loaded, you can force that. Go back into Device Manager and click on the top line. Then click on the "Action" item at the top and choose to Scan for Hardware Changes. If it still does not alert you to loading a driver, you can find the mouse as before and RIGHT-click on it to choose "Update Diver".

I tried that already several times with both mice but it doesn't seem to fix the problem the pop up shows that the device is connected and when i open device manager it says device working properly and I still can only press left and right click but i cannot move still and even the sensor is not lighting up on both of them. I am thinking of getting a new mouse of a different brand and see if it works but I am scared that the drivers might mix up again somehow and cause that mouse some kind of problem

It is odd that TWO different units of the same mouse model have the same failure! Not impossible, of course.

If you get a new different mouse model, you can ensure a clean install easily. Basically, follow my sequence above with the old mouse in place, up to the start of Step 4. (At the end of Step 3 the old mouse driver has been cleaned out of your system.) Then when you plug in a mouse, just make sure it is the NEW mouse. The system should find and load the correct driver for that unit.

So i took the mouse back at the shop and they told me that they will send me a new one of the same, it will arrive tomorrow and I am wondering if i have some messed up windows files that prevent me from using it and i am thinking about a clean reinstall of the pc if it makes some sense because i dont want to get in a position where i bring them back another one with the same problem .

It is HIGHLY UNlikely that you have damaged any files because of this mouse problem. When I used the phrase "clean install" above I did NOT mean to re-install Windows and all that! I meant simply that the first steps would remove the existing mouse device driver from your system so that it would not be re-used by mistake. When you install a new different mouse, the system detects its identity and goes looking for the driver for THAT particular mouse if at all possible.

I am going to try that with the new mouse today and I am going to post an update later on

So i got a SteelSeries Rival 3 mouse from a friend. I plugged it in and it started moving moving the cursor on its own again for a couple of minutes then it got normal but with the Genesis mouse it's not working, it is still the same.

So you have a different mouse and it seems to work. BUT you still did NOT get rid of the mouse device driver for the old one, so we do NOT know whether the new mouse is using the correct driver for it. IF you are keeping the new one, go through the entire sequence of my first post above to ensure the correct driver is being used with it.

Update, I got the new mouse, it is a Genesis but a different model than the old one, I uninstalled the other mice from the pc and I succesfully installed the new one and it is working as normal so it seems the drivers were making problems only for the old model of the mouse even tho i got a new one. Thank you for your help and time. Have a great day.
