Hello there,

It's been now 1 day I am trying to revive my friend's computer since I wanted to change it's CPU: since the CPU switch, the system boots, but doesn't display anything on my screen (Whatever it is on the ingreated or discrete graphics card port!) and does nothing else like if I put back the old CPU inside. Plus, the rear panel doesn't work, the fans work, and the GPU got power.

---- Specifications of the computer ----

Motherboard: MSI B85-G43
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460
Upgrade CPU: Intel Core i7-4790
GPU: MSI GTX 970
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X Fury DDR3 1600MHz
CPU Fan: Intel Stock Cooler

Both CPUs worked without any problem on my old LGA1150 motherboard. The graphics card and the RAM haven't got any problem on the same motherboard.

I should probably mention, I did a little mistake that, I guess, haven't got any impact. I put the jumper while the system was on... I learned it can damage the motherboard, but if it would have done it, the computer shouldn't even boot. I also checked all the A/C cables, but it hasn't helped anything. Take note too that this was a second hand computer, and it has got a few problems, like unfunctional front panel USB ports or a broken USB input on the motherboard.

Is the motherboard dead or bricked? Is there a solution, or not? Please, answer!

Take the CMOS battery out for a full 60 seconds and then put it back in.

What jumper are you referring to?

Hello @General_Cool

Thanks for your answer. My jumper looks like this:

I already tried doing the battery method, but it seems like it didn't worked. I will try it again and give you news.

Have you got any other idea? If yes, please tell me!
I would say do a BIOS update but there is honestly no point, I don't think this board is coming back to life. Good news is this chipset is so old you'll be able to find a cheap motherboard quite easily.

If you want, download a BIOS update for the board on another PC, then put it on a USB thumbdrive that is formatted as FAT32, plug it into your motherboard's flashback port and follow the motherboard's manual on how to commence the flashback. Like I said, doubt it will do much...

Hello again @General_Cool,

Sorry for the late answer. I was busy this week... So, I asked help to a friend that is a hardware-specialized technician and told me the motherboard was dead because there were no POST, it means no beep nor something showed on the screen. Plus, he told us that the motherboard's old owner kind of "maltreated" the motherboard.

I think it's because I did my CPU switch on the ground and I fried something due to static electricity.

So, in conclusion, I now work on a computer with the feets on the ground and with a metallic object on the one I discharge my static electricity. I put my computer now on a table and always remember that great powers require great responsibilities. My friend gave me a H97-HD3 instead since it doesn't have any value today, and was able to repair it.

Whatever, thanks for your help! 😉
