Problem with new Sound Card

Hi,

I have just purchased a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card - to replace my rather ageing Creative Soundblaster Audigy Standard Edition. One of the main reasons why I bought the X-Fi was so that I could once again use the Front Panel Audio socket (Line Out) for my headphones and Creative 2.1 computer speakers - a function, or capability, not supported by my very basic Audigy card.

However, a problem has developed. When I use the Front Panel socket, I only get mono sound (or 1.05 sound from my speakers!). But when I plug the headphones or speakers into the back of the X-Fi sound card I'm back into stereo/2.1 sound ...

Any ideas as to what is going wrong? I'm sure it is something pretty basic, a configuration problem or something. If you can help that would be great :bounce:

Thanks,

DANNY

It sounds to me like you are having an issue with the FP Audio connector or wiring.
Double check the connection and all cables up to the front panel.

Do you have another case sitting around?
If so, try the FP header from it and see how it works.

I have the same card - it's a fantastic card and you'll be very happy with it! It really sounds to me like it's a connection issue otherwise you'd be experiencing the same problem from both ends (front and back). Did you connect the front audio panel to the card itself or the motherboard? You should use the card's connectors. If you are absolutely sure it's connected correctly, then it could be something with the wire itself or the connector (either the pin or the socket) but this is unlikely - in this case do what outlw6669 suggested... Good luck! Oh, and don't forget to update your signature to include your new kick-ass sound card! Cheers!

Yes, it's working now! I just 're-tightened' & 're-screwed' everything - etc - and, hey presto, it spluttered into life: working through the FP and everything. Well, hardly 'spluttered' - it sounds fantastic. Without doubt, the sound quality is qualitatively better than my old Audigy SE. Recommended!

Thanks,
DANNY
