Hi, I'm new to this forum.
About a week ago, I bought a new CPU for my PC, a Ryzen 7 5700. Before that, I upgraded my BIOS to get support for it first.
However, two days before my new CPU arrived, I started to have strange problems when using my PC. First, I got a random reboot. I ignored it thinking it was just a quick power failure from outside, but then, after a few hours, my PC completely froze and I had to force shutdown by holding the power button.
I then thought it was either a problem with the CPU or the RAM, and figured it was the RAM after my CPU arrived and I installed it, and got the exact same issue. Then, I just stopped getting any video signal at all when turning my PC on, and if I wanted to turn it off, I needed to flip the power supply's switch instead of just pressing the motherboard's power button for long enough.
I then tried really hard cleaning the RAM sticks I had with a toothbrush, cotton swabs and alcohol, but no luck. Got the exact same issue as before.
So, I bought a new pair of RAM sticks (Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL), installed them today and I ran into the exact same issue somehow. I reset the BIOS thrice — first and second times, I kept the battery out for a while and flipped the PSU switch: no luck. Third time, I tried to clear it with its jumper connector: also no results.
So this is what I have now: I turn the PC on, all fans start spinning except for the GPU one (I believe it only does when under some load) and there's no video whatsoever. To turn the PC off, I need to flip the PSU switch, because the power button doesn't do anything.
Could my motherboard be fried? I also noticed that the LED pattern on my RAM sticks get out of sync over time, but that could be irrelevant as it only indicates that there's power on them.
Plus, much before these upgrades, my PC was having similar problems whenever I changed a component on it. I remember having to reboot it at least 4 times when I just added an old hard disk I had on it. Maybe things like that damaged the board over time?
EDIT: forgot to mention, I've also tried booting with only one RAM stick. No luck with that too.
