[SOLVED] Problems clicking on things

I very often have to click on things multiple times for Windows to respond, and it's been annoying me for years. Here are several occasions where this usually happens:

  1. When I open Start and click on the power button to bring up the shutdown options but the first click doesn't work so I always have to click a second time
  2. Exiting fullscreen mode in VLC should require a double click but I have to mash click 5-10 times for VLC to exit fullscreen.
  3. Right after deleting a folder, I try to open another folder but it won't open no matter how many times I click. Even if I mash click 100 times, it won't open. It'll only open if I move the mouse a few pixels and THEN double click.

Btw, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my mouse. I am 100% sure it doesn't have the double clicking switch issue. This is a software issue that I've been dealing with ever since Windows 10 but never looked for a reason why.

What is happening here and is there a way to stop it?

Solution
Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

it doesn't delete anything, just stops programs running at startup. Easily reversed.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.
so you have verified that other mice have the exact same issue on your system?
and that this particular mouse works correctly on other systems?
Should've mentioned this too but yes, I've used several properly-functioning mice over the years. This was also a problem on a completely different pc I had. It's really not a hardware problem. I've always assumed that this was some annoying feature Windows had so it's been part of my life for many years now.

on this particular system with this OS install?
with this particular mouse?
With different mice on 2 different PCs with completely different parts.

The only thing that is the same is the version of Windows I'm using (single-language edition), since it's the only version I own. but this new PC is a fresh install of Windows via USB, just linked via digital license.

I will try this out. Now that you mention it, it could be one of the programs I've installed and integrated into my right click menu. Will try this out, thanks!
