problems connecting keyboard and mouse to monitor usb hub

Hey guys i recently just purchased a dell U2414H monitor and it comes with a usb hub in the back of it. im using the monitor to connect it to my laptop as an external display via Hdmi 1.4a since thats all my laptop supports. now my issue is, that i was under the impression that i can connect my wired mouse and keyboard in the back of the monitor as a way to help with cable management, but non of that is working. is this something thats possible to do? or would i have to directly connect the mouse and keyboard to the laptop? also, i forgot to mention that im on running on windows 10.

did you load the monitor driver? what did the monitor's manual say on what usb devices can be connected to it?

kind of late, but thanks for the reply my problem was that i didnt connect the usb B cable that came with the monitor, i didnt know what it was for till i read the manual.

no problem. always do an R.T.F.M.D. 1st before assembling\connecting something together for the 1st time.
