Problems transfering files

Hello,
dont know how to tranfer files from my old hard drive which i toke out of my old computer which died on me.the old computer was running vista and the new one is windows 7. have alraedy bought the hard drive cable adapter

Did the hard drive fail or was it the computer? Is the old hard drive recognized by Windows 7 when you connect it to the computer? If the drive is recognized and all you want to do is copy files from the old hard drive you can copy and paste or move them from the old hard drive.
