Hello, I recently bought an HDMI cable, because I only had a VGA one, so I figured why not since I was getting a new pc that no longer has any VGA outs. The problem I ran into was that when using the HDMI cable the screen image was bigger than my actual screen, meaning that I only saw a part of what I was supposed to see. I dont know if its a problem with the cable or with my monitor (since I bought it a few years ago), but I tried it on both my new PC when loading to the bios and also on my laptop. Monitor: Samsung LT23A350EW

Is this your Samsung LT23A350EW TV/Monitor?...

Now that I recall from reading this Samsung monitor's PDF manual; my LG 1920x1080 VGA monitor had the same display issue and the whole trick was to change the display size from the monitor's control panel next to the monitor's power switch.. Press > Fün button > to Photo Effect (Wide)... in your monitor I believe it's: Control Panel > Menu > Picture > Screen Adjustment > Picture Size... once this manual setting is done, check the Windows resolution setting is at 1920x1080

It does the same at any resolution, even after installing the drivers.. Also the image quality is quite bad as well.. I simply cant see half of my start menu and the corners are just cut off as if a greater image was placed on a smaller screen

Display drivers are probably not installing... right click on Computer > Manage > Device Manager > Display Adapter... Does it have a small yellow exclamation mark icon over the Display Adapters > Graphics card?... If so, the driver is not installed... some drivers have trouble installing or installing correcly in some Windows versions/editions, and this may be the case. And if when you installed the display driver, the system reported the driver was successfully installed(?)... I'd have to find a diferent solution.

There is no yellow exclamation mark, I always have the newest drivers from Nvidia Experience. And yes after the monitor drivers installed it reported to be successful.

VGA uses an analog driver, HDMI needs a digital driver, both give different resolution... So, you probably installed the VGA Analog driver and you still need to install a driver for HDMI (digital video).

Go to the Display settings and try a higher resolution so displayed things look smaller and more practical.. then download Nvidia GeForce Experience and it will find, download and install the right drivers for you. A defective cable would give other type of issues, not display size.. that's due to wrong drivers that give unappropriate resolution for the monitor size.

If you'd read my posts, I already told you that I have Geforce Experience and I was given a choice when installing the display drivers (analog/digital) and I installed the digital driver. It didn't help anything. Also I'm using the highest possible resolution of my monitor (1920x1080).

Sorry but there's no mention of GeForce Experience before mine... maybe you meant to say it where you start with "It does the same at any resolution, even after installing the drivers"?...

One thing I can asure you, it's not the HDMI cable.. cables only carry a signal, they can't change display settings.. they can reduce the signal quality but not resolution. The part where you say: "Also the image quality is quite bad as well." that can be caused by a bad video cable but low resolution can only be caused by the video card, drivers or Windows issue and maybe power issue.

I'd suggest you try a diferent video card to see it's not the cable.. your card may be having issues on digital mode. The way you describe the display sounds like HDMI goes into VGA Mode at the lowest resolution available. Have you tried in Safe Mode or VGA Mode, from the safe Mode start options with F8 just to compare that resolution to what it's displaying in normal mode?

When I said that there is no yellow exclamation mark I mentioned that I have Nvidia Experience (close enough :D ). I haven't tried running it on safe mode, but I've tried running it on multiple devices (both my pc and laptop), in both cases the same thing happened. Also it's not like the resolution is bad, it's just that the image is extended beyond the screen (that could cause worse image quality due to "pixels being more visible").

Alright, so I tried messing with the settings of the monitor instead of my pc and found out that the size issue is fixed after I switched the 16:9 aspect ratio to auto-adjust.. Though the image still has very low quality and I don't know what to do about it, so I'll try to get a refund on the cable.

Okay, so I got a brand new expensive HDMI cable and the image quality is still far from perfect, although it seems to be a slight bit better. Any suggestions? I'm guessing the problem might be in the monitor

well looked up Samsung LT23A350EW I got this from there UK site and I see theres windows 7 drivers ???

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/LT23A350EW/EN

I'd get the manusl and see if you may need that driver in some way ?

looking at the manual looks like pc use is covered nice under its '' Display Modes (D-Sub and an HDMI to DVI Input] ''

''x For PC connection, you must use the HDMI IN 1(DVI) jack ''

then you wonder if the cards v-bios supports every monitor / hdtv ?? these days they don't support you it now you got to support them

LOL... Now I see you did mention "Nvidia Experience" but I either missed it or it didn't register in my mind as GeForce Experience.

I'd suggest you check the user manual as it may include the instructions to manually set the display aspect ratio. Your monitor should have a disk with the manual included or you can download it from the Samsung Monitor Product page.

''"Nvidia Experience'' thats one thing I never install , only the driver and PhysX nothing else [maybe hd audio if ever needed when needed ]

may want to try to test the card in another computer and monitor to se if it works as expected if you see same like issues then could be a bad card ??
