problems with duron

ok I have bought 2 different motherboards with a duron 700. an az11 and a soyo kyvta-b. the first one i sent back because it locked up to much. the second does the same thing. so i sent for the soyo motherboard bundle. after the temp gets to around 106 it runs very sloppy and any program im using will lock up. my p233 runs better than this. i was thinking ok maybe something was screwed up in windows so i did a format c and started a fresh install of windows. but guess what it locks up when im trying to install windows but works after I leave the computer shut off for a while. i ordered from mwave.com. so what do you think the problem is? im guessing its the crappy oem processors. I have a good heat sink installed properly and im using the thermo goo stuff.

I also built a DURON on an FIC AZ11 and am not very happy with the results, the same problems that were described earlier (freezes, blue screens and losing my sound drivers) I have since built another one. This time i used an ASUS A7V motherboard and have had much different results. Completely stable and very fast! Now if I can only get this Plexter CDR/RW working consistantly it would be perfect.... well, almost.

It seems strange that your having these problems witha temp of only 106. The Duron processor is speced to run at a max of 90C. That's 194F. (I wouldn't reccomend running anywhere near this however, I like to keep mine below 45C, 113F) If it IS the heat that's causing your problems, I would say you got a bad processor. Reccomend sending the whole shot back, and then ordering a nice Abit KT7 or ASUS K7V. Order from someone else to ensure they don't send you another bad processor.

I downloaded a temp monitor and a cpu warmer from the tweak files website. i let it heat up to around 105-110 F and then it freezes even while web browsing. the tech from mwave thought my P/S might not of been good enough so i swapped it with a 300 w antec and same thing happens. they are trying to give me bs and not give me a refund. i already have my first one on its way back! they better refund my shipping and every penny i paid for these mobo bundles. I'm going to get a motherboard for my celeron 500. can anyone suggest a good celeron mobo?

Never buy a Celeron 500, if you check all the websites databse, it is the least overclockable. Get any celeron that is FC-PGA negerations ie 533 and above.

Becareful ther are 533 that is not FC-PGA versions, may be better off with 566 and onwards, you'll never find any processor above that speed that is not FC-PGA

I had a Cel500, regret big time, got tricked into getting it by a local shop, keep telling me no stock this/that only got 500. At that time, no huge database have build up about its chances not getting good O/c results

I think I may have solved the problem. when i bought this stuff i also purchased a new seagate hard drive. so I thought what the heck and I tried a fresh installation of windows on my old hard drive and I haven't had my computer freeze yet. I used the cpu heater and got my temp to 111 and then I played the inrto to homeworld cataclysm with no freezes. however the game is still jittery sometimes when it loads some of the speech files. I wonder what would cause the seagate drive to screw up but my 2 year old maxtor works? could the hard drive have been getting to hot? its a 7200 rpm and i dont have any fans on it. this is driving me crazy cause i can't figure out exactly whats wrong
