Problems with new mobo

So I'm not entirely sure if the problem I'm having is actually with my motherboard, but that would be my first guess.

About 2 months ago, I decided that I didn't have a good enough processor, which was the Xeon W3550, so I decided to get I new one. The one I chose to get was the AMD FX-8350 (not a huge upgrade, I know)

I ordered a compatible motherboard, the msi 970 gaming, and a better power supply than what I have. Firstly, I accidentally ordered the wrong processor... I saw one for about $10 cheaper, and decided, okay, I'll get that one instead. I somehow didn't notice that I was ordering the FX 6300 instead, and didn't realize that that's what it was until it arrived. And the website didn't accept returns...

After I realized that, I died a little bit inside, then put everything away, up until now. I had everything put in the computer, the new mobo, new cpu (it's still compatible), new power supply, and all the old stuff. I plug it in, and the power supply starts for about half a second, and then stops. Afterwards it won't start at all. I've quadruple-checked, and everything is plugged into the motherboard correctly.

I'm assuming that it's a problem with the motherboard, because if it were the power supply, it wouldn't turn on at all. I thought that maybe the system panel connectors were in wrong, and that's why the power button wouldn't work, but they're plugged in correctly,

It's not a huge deal, since there's almost no difference between the w3550 and FX 6300 in performance, but I'd still like to get it working.

Since we can't see or touch your PC, we need more info about it and its behavior. Go here:

Work through the list. WORK! Not just read. If you still have issues, come back here with the results of EACH step in the list. This will allow us to eliminate possible problems and zero in on the correct diagnosis.

What do you mean the power supply starts? Do you mean the PC boot process starts, led lights, etc.?

When the power supply button in on, do you have a led light lit on the motherboard?

Did you try to start up the PC without the CMOS battery installed?

You're going to have to first determine if your power supply is sending power to the MB. You should also try checking the PSU disconnected from the PC and jumping the pins to see if it powers up the fan. You can check on Youtube how to test a PSU.

I don't recall. It isn't put together anymore.
I'll probably just save this for another time--There won't be any significant change in performance if I get it working, anyways.
