Hello all
I am having issues with plugging in a usb device to the front
port of my computer case.Evertime i try to us it,it turns my computer off
and restarts it all over again. My board is a K7N2GM2-LSR. This is the layout
of my system

WINDOWS XP SP2
AMD ATHLON XP 2700
K7NEGM2-LSR
512MB DDR2700
FLOPPY
6-IN-1 CARD READER
NORTONS SYSTEM WORKS 2003 PRO

Any ideas on what could be causing this, the things i have tried are.
REMOVING THE CARD READER.
CHECKING THE CONECTIONS ON THE BOARD.
UNHOOKING THE FRONT USB,AND REHOOKING IT BACK UP.
RE INSTALLING THE O.S.
UPDATING THE 2,0 USB DRIVERS FOR THE BOARD.

So if anyone has any ideas on what is causing this problem, please let me
know.
Thanks in advance

George Carr

What case are you using? Also, can you hook up the rear USB ports to
the connections you're using for the front? if so, you could try that
and see if it's the case ports or wiring and not the mobo.

I know its not the cases,we have a number of units with these cases and no
problems. The onboard usb ports are working fine, its just the front usb and
the card reader that this is happening to.

If you go to the Antec web site and browse around you will find the
Sonata has a extra wire (brown one) that gives problems, also you will
find that the firewire is not wired right. I cut the brown wire and
changed the wiring on the firewire (not hard to do). Everything
worked good after that with a Neo2 Platinum.

You know it's not the case because you have a number of those units?
how does that equate? We have hundreds of D325 desktops at work so
does that mean when one breaks it's not the pc? because we have other
one's that work?

ROFLBO,well you know what i mean, well maybe you dont. When ever we plug
anything into the front USB ports the computer restarts, but after that
everything works. The Rear USB (on the board) works fine, and your right just
because we have that many units,Like 15-20 with no problems that does not
mean that the 15-20 we orderd with this batch may be defective. What i was
looking for is an answer or even an idea on what might be the problem, not a
smart ass remark,i could have gotten that off the Aopen news group.but
thanks for your input anywho. 😛

The problem isn't the case at all. I had the exact same problem,
different MSI board. I got in touch with MSI tech support, they sent
me a "yet to be released" bios update, problem solved. Just use the
MSI contact page, they responded to me within a day.

Hope this helps

Yes,i have sent a number of emails and online forms that two men couldn't
shake hands over. But regardless,it is like you said it's not the case but
the board it self, all 8 that we have. Will be waiting for this update.

thanks for the Info

I have also cut wire to pin #10 USBOC, as have others, to successfully fix
the problem.

Well just an update on this Problem,Msi has finaly got in touch with me,and
i have sent a board to them to have them test it.After about 15 e-mails,and
Finaly sending one to the company that we bought the boards from, they sent
MSI a email asking for any help in this matter,I guess i was not the only
one having this issue with this board. Will keep you all posted on the
outcome.

Thanks for all the info.
