When I try to go in 640x480 mode to play some games, my monitor always turns off. It must be a driver dependant issue, because with the asus own drivers it can work in 640x480 but always crashes when initialising the d3d engine.
What can I do
My pc:
AMD 650 mhz
128mb ram
20 gig hd
Asus V-7700 pure
Soundblaster live player
Relisys Re786 (Monitor)

Yes it's a driver problem when turning to low resolution, i am having the same, try to download the 12.10 driver or wait for the next official driver from nvidia(it will be better).
But let me ask you a question, why your playing at 640*480?
You have a geforce2 gts, so you can play games at least at 1024*768 and with good performance.
These card are made for high graphics, high resolution, high performance not for 640*480!!!!!!!!!!!
