I just moved countries and took out my hard drive to keep safe (don't know if this is a factor) i just set up my computer put the hard drive back in everything booted up fine, no problems, but for some reason programs are taking very long to open, some even crash (speedfan), for example when i double click a shortcut on the desktop nothing happens for about 10 seconds it doesn't even show up in task manager, then the program actually starts loading.

Could it be damage to my HDD, i carried it in my laptop bag at all times wrapped in cloth to keep it safe from impact. Or is this caused by taking the HDD out and putting it back in (maybe I have to reconfigure it?)

i haven't noticed it affecting my game loading speeds or any other performance but it would be great if anyone could offer a solution, thanks.

hey thanks for the help, i defragmented the HDD except for Disk D which for some reason didnt work (no error message) but i couldnt find anything about optimization, i also checked for errors and found none

Did it work? It hopefully did. Optimize HDD is on the same page as defragment HDD.

I cant see any change, programs are still doing the same thing, i forgot to add this in the main post but its not happening to any windows programs, media player, photo viewer, etc. i seriously cant find the optimize HDD tool, i went to properties, tools, and then theres Error-checking, Defragmentation, and Backup, nothing else there

Try a disk benchmark. I am familiar with PassMark, so you could try that. Get the trial and tell me what your Sequential Read/Write scores are.

Alright i'll get back to you on the benchmark, do you think it could be a problem with something else other than the HDD because so far the Hard Drive seems fine

Probably not, just give me the benchmark and I will tell you. Could be your processor with heat issues. Is your new area really hot?

it cant be heat issues i have a Deep Cool Gammax 400 on my cpu and the temps are fine, idling at 30-35

Alright, is you RAM usage alright? I need those scores.

yeah my ram is fine got 8GB 1 GB used when idling, i'll give you the scores in a while cause im running the data lifeguard diagnostics 30 mins left

That is good. Maybe a virus just showed up? Try resetting CMOS and tell me if that helps.

Just ran the passmark benchmark scored 2845.5, also the diagnostics came up fine, i will try resetting the CMOS now

Hey this is appleman634 on my phone, reset the CMOS and still no help, my theory is that the my antivirus is scanning every program i open because my computer is offline (dont have ethernet cable right now, long story) and the antivirus hasnt been updated so its doing this. It would explain why it doesnt happen with windows 7 programs (theyre verified maybe)
Just a theory

I mean your Hard Drive / Storage Benchmark. Your Hard Drive is not likely dying, but it could be.

okay so Disk Mark scored 1142, Sequential read 155.2, Sequential Write 154.6, Random Seek + RW 5.9
By the way i have a WD blue 500GB, model: WDC WD5000AZLX-00K4KA0 ATA Device

That seems about right. I have WD Blue 1 TB, and I get around there, now a little less because most of my space is used. It isn't your Hard Drive holding you back. Get back to me when you reset CMOS.

i already have reset my CMOS, went to the bios and restored everything to default, hasn't changed anything
