To use a projector on WinXP Laptop:
1. Plug the VGA cable of the projector into the corresponding plug on the
back of the laptop
2. Turn on the projector
3. Turn on the computer
[The projector should now show what the laptop screen shows. When it
finishes the WinXP loading screen, the projector will appear to have lost
connection]
4. Right-click desktop and go properties (or use control panel>>display)
5. Click settings tab
6. You should now have a little picture thingy with rectangles 1 & 2 which
represents the monitors attached to the laptop (yes, WinXP laptops consider
projectors as a second monitor)
7. Click the no. 2 rectangle
8. Check the checkbox that says extend my windows desktop yada yada...
9. Click the advanced tab
10. Peruse this section for something to do with 'cloning' your display
If you can not find the cloning thing, then once you apply and click ok the
projector will come alive, however it will not show ur icons, as the laptop
thinks that your projector is another monitor on the right-hand side of ur
laptop monitor. Move your mouse to the very right of ur laptop screen and
watch as it appears on your projection. Leaving it set like this means that
to show something on the projector, you need to drag windows onto the other
screen (when in restore, not maximized). To use a powerpoint presentation on
this configuration, go into the Slide Show menu and go to Set up Show and
find the section that says Display slide show on: and change this to
secondary monitor (you can experiment with presenter view if u like).
If you don't appove of XP thinking there are two monitors, you can ignore
the part where you click the extend my windows desktop yada yada... bit and
click the 2nd rectangle and click Make this my primary monitor (or something
like that). Now ur laptop screen will turn off and your entire computer will
be run using the projector
