Pros and Cons - HDTV vs.Monitor(s)

Right now I'm using a 22" 1600x900 HP LCD with my HD6970, and I'd like something a little larger with a higher resolution to play games and movies. I have a budget of about $500 and would like to get the best display for my buck. I'm trying to decide whether to get an LCD HDTV, or a better monitor, or several monitors in Eyefinity. Any thoughts, experiences, comments, or suggestions anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for your response. I can see that would be true for games. I'm also concerned about watching movies in hi-def, which may look odd if stretched across three monitors in an Eyefinity set-up.
