Heres where you can read up on them , and theres a link to nvidia.com where you can download them

im very impressed, especially with the displacement mapping example

is ATI able to do effects like this with PS2.0, and at the same speed?

one thing im noticeing is alot of slow downs in the demos, the typical .25 second choppiness you get when the quality is just a bit too high for your card

hmm and these are demos also, no where near what a game requires in terms of ram/cpu .. and demos can be tailered heavily towards a specific piece of hardware as well

impressed, but im still sceptical

The demos are pretty grainy (I think due to recording technique and not render issues) some are impressive, some not so much. The most impressive to me was when they switched back and forth between the HDR models. Very impressive way of pointing out the difference. Of course it's a pure copy of the Rthdribl demo.

Wow that is really cool.

I'm really excited about shader model 3.0 in the upcoming Geforce.

Hey checkout my new post here with the shader model 3.0 information from MS's site, its been one of the best reads on the subject I've seen so far.

The "choppiness" can easily be due to the actual recording software- don't forget that isn't light...

well man, i considered that

but the way the choppiness looks.. its not like it stalls for a second, and then continues

it stalls, and then the progress catches up to where it should have been as if there was no loss of frames.. this usually happens when the video card cannot keep up, yet the game/demo keeps on progressing

yea, ive seen that post under "comments" mentioning how it could have been because of the recording from digital to analogue and then back again, but it looks just too similar to rendering choppiness that ive seen a million times

err btw, after I saw that lights and water demo I whipped out the benjamins for this card. Mid april they said was the announce date, so are we looking at say availability in markets for November/ December...or maybe even the next gen of the NV40?

Should be sooner. The NV45 should arrive near the same time as the R23, which should be mid summer based on current timetables (if the NV40/R420 release on time).

The water is impressive, and the shadows demo does explain alot of the direct nV is headin with their clipping. They are more impressive for what they imply more than as visuals.

And the R42X should support VS 3.0, but PS 3.0 is likely not going to happen until later.

It'll be nice to see the practical performance differences.

Useable or not in games. For you though in apps, shouldn't matter too much, especially going from your Quadro.

Hopefully you will be able to softQuadro them too. I have a feeling even the mid range Quadros will be nutty expensive.

Quality wise, It just looks like a bad transfer to me. Probably recorded onto magnetic tape in analogue format and then captured.

All the demos look like they've gone through the wringer.

Ooooo, yay, I get my wish, an NV45!! (Will be finally doing the mutimillion dollar upgrade I've been bragging about for the past 2 years when I get into college @ the end of this year- hopefully early admissions). My theory is spend a ridiculous amount and don't upgrade for years (this comp I have I spent ~3K on in 2000/2001 and it's still peachy). I doubt I'll be getting a full blown quadro this time tho cause I've been doing almost no 3d stuff for months now (more into programming) and modding is more fun.

Hey wait a second, if NV35 -> FX5800 and NV40 -> FX6800 while NV38 -> 5900/5950 then does NV43/45 -> 6900?
Ehehehhehe, I get one of my fav numbers:):)

well yes grainyness is definately from teh conversion

the skipped frames are what im talking about tho.. that usually doesnt happen just from converting from analogue to digital even if you have to a dozen times

LOL!

And you can Think of it as a 69 - Oh! - OH!

I think even without a softquadro the NV45 should tackle most current stuff very well. Hopefully by the time it would give you trouble there will be one, if you should still need it.

There may be some dropped frames. It's just very VERY hard to tell much more. But still it gets the point accross, hopefully WE will be able to see the demos in action first hand, then appreciate the difference.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions from the demos other than the abilities of the techniques.

But as nice as the Rthdribl demo may look on the FX5200SE with low res, their practical power with PS 2.0 is limited.

Hands on is need for that, but this is a promising start.

I wonder if the MASA engine was used as a basis for the HDR demo, because after looking at this again (saw it first time a while ago) it looks a HELL of alot like Rthdribl.

u messed up.
nv 30 = fx5800 nv 35 = fx5900 nv 38 = 5950
the nv 45 would logically = 6900

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)
Rachel:): why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?

That's eerie, it just floats in the air.

Must be one hell of an HSF to keep it suspended like that!
