PotatoHead32 :
I am downloading rn, Its going super slow.... 1 Mb/s. My ISP provides 100+ Dl and 40 Upload (CAT 5e to Desktop).
2.4ghz is super slow, i live in an apartment and the ping is 40+, which is why i tend to stick with 5ghz, but my ps4 doesn't support it
1) Please clarify, is that 1MBps or 1Mbps?
1MBps means over 2GB per hour, but 1Mbps takes 8x as long.
*100Mbps is about 12.5MBps, which in theory can download a 13GB file in under 20 minutes.
2) Where is the ROUTER?
If you are sharing a wi-fi connection, and 5GHz is faster then it sounds like you are being BLOCKED physically and/or there is interference with other 2.4GHz devices.
*If your wi-fi router is in the apartment then you should have a strong 2.4GHz connection between router and PS4, unless one of those devices is broken somehow. As I said probably at least 7MBps.
3) What downloads speeds do you get with a 5GHz networked device?
Keep in mind if you SHARE a connection with other people this bandwidth will vary a lot. The best connection probably around 12PM to 6AM.
If 100Mbps is for the entire building then your connection is going to be pretty slow at times.
4) Alternatives?
Get your own, dedicated connection?
*I'm still confused on your setup, but you mention PING in the building so it sounds like you are sharing a connection with other tenants.
Summary:
I'm not sure what exactly you can get with a 5GHz connection, but it sounds like you are SHARING a network which really isn't designed to handle the demands of video streaming and game downloads.
Yes, 5GHz may help and sounds like it can but only up to the point of whatever you are allocated at that MOMENT of what the apartments total bandwidth allocation is.
