Hi. I am in Canada. I think my PSU is set to 230, and I believe in NA it is supposed to be at 115. I am not sure if this is so though, because it would seem that my computer shouldnt be running at all, and also I am not even sure if it is set to 230. On the back, the red switch says '230', and I am not sure if that means it is set to 230 already, or that if i switch it it will then be at 230. I believe it means it is set to 230, but then that means it shouldnt work.

BUT my computer has been restarting recently when I have been playing games or watching films for a while, so I believe that may be the cause of it. But I am not sure.

Anyone know anything?

If you have the older power supply with a 115/230 switch, it should be set to 115. Close enough to the 120 you are getting.

I have doubts that the system would even boot with switch in the wrong place, but on any of those older power supplies I have, the 115 is what shows.

It should be showing something like the following:

Yep, mine looks like that except it says '230'. which means what i thought- that it is on 230 instead of 115.

I am afraid to switch it to 115 and have my PSU screw up completely, because right now as it is it is working.
But I also think that the crashes I have been experiencing recently are caused because it isn't on the right voltage... but then from what I am reading, if I am on the wrong one my PSU shouldnt be working at all.

Is there any way that 230 is somehow normal where I am (Ontario, Canada), or is it more likely that it is working still on the wrong setting, just causing these crashes? As i said, i want to try to switch it and see how it goes, but I am afraid it will fry something if i do.

No.

You can always replace the power supply with a modern unit that doesn't have that switch.

Ok. Soo... I switched it now so that it is at 115V and good news is that it didnt fry anything, and my computer still worked when I started it up, so nothing seems screwed up...

but now I am wondering if it is bad that it had been set on 230 for that long and nothing went? am i just lucky then? because from what I have been reading people said that it either shouldnt work at all or else it will break or break something else.

hopefully this will stop my computer from randomly crashing.

I am honestly surprised it worked at all. It is much less of an issue then setting it to 115 and feeding it 230 :) That would damage something for sure

Guess all you can do is test it.

Also, if you shop online. NCIX.com is a good place to look, they have a warehouse in Toronto(used to be only BC) so shipping is fast on most items.
