Hey all. So a little while back I did my first ever upgrade and upgraded my mother's pc with new mb & ram. There was an issue however and the PSU is dead. I was going to replace it with one I have my from one of my older pc's however I noticed the pins for the adaptor cable are not the same in terms of the port shapes, in that the box & arch shape configuration of each one is different. Will it still work or will that cause damage to something if I use it still? Tia.

PC

Mobo: ASRock H97M Pro4
RAM: Patriot 1699mhz 16g x 2
GPU: onboard
PSU: (new) Cooler Master RS-430-PCAR 400w

sure it works now. but when it stops working, it does not have any modern protection built in to prevent it from taking everything else with it.

i'd def replace it. your other big hint is that the connections don't even match up. standards have changed in 15+ years which is why it won't connect. forcing it in is NOT the answer. they make the shapes like that to prevent plugging in something that won't work.

the pins are not the same anymore so forcing it in would put unmatched stuff together. such as a 5v wire where it's now expecting a ground or 12v into a 5v spot or whatever.

you need a new psu designed for what you are using. grant it the h97 mobo is also old but it's still newer than that psu by a long shot.
