Hi all,

Just quick question here that I'm having trouble finding the answer to. Would like to change PSUs in my system and have done some looking but where I'm having concern is understanding what ATX PSU is compatible with my slim-line Dell 165 Watt, i.e.:

Can someone please tell me what "5.5v FP" in relation to ATX PSUs listing "5.5v FSP or FSB"?
And, can I use that ATX w/5.5v F... in place of the other?

Thanks

ATX includes 3.3V, 5V, -5V(no longer used), 12V, -12V, 5VSB (standby), but no 5.5V. Can you provide a link showing what you're asking about?

Some Dell's have PSUs and mobos which are not compatible with ATX. What model do you have?

Many thanks for the reply tA. Of course I'm out of it when comes spec knowledge.
Sorry, wrong voltage s/b:

L161NF3P Dell 160 W:
+ 5v = 11 Amp
+ 3.3v =9 Amp
+ 5v FP = 2 Amp <-- this guy?
+ 12v = 11Amp
- 12v = 0.5 Amp

Shxx I missed your question after putting in that gobly-goop.

It's a Dell 4700C
Parts are here to upgrade
Drill, Hole Saw and six 40mm fans(lol) but serious
From 512 MB to: Kingston Memory module 2x 2 GB (# KTD-DM8400A/2G) for dual channel (max 3.50gb recognized (XP))
From: WD80GB(crashed) to: WD 360GB Black SE16

Thanks for all suggestions guys !

Hi tA, gosh don't tell me that. I want to use an Ultra 500 Watt take this bizzare thing out, externally cable the ATX PSU , Mount the SATA outside w/HD Fan, and I want it all to work.
Tall order, no, not if the components cooperate.

First off, I'd recommend against using Ultra - Antec Earthwatts or Corsair VX would be much better. Also, why 500W?

Second, before you jury rig a new PSU on there you need to make sure that the motherboard power connector is standard. Dell sometimes changes the wires around, which would mean you could not connect another PSU to the motherboard. Put the mobo connector from your PSU next to the mobo connector from a standard ATX PSU and make sure that the corresponding socket has the same color wire.

Hey tA, All my lighting is and will be expanded 12v halogen, running of the PSU I choose to install.
PSUs with the proper protection and the power to deliver is what I'm after, of couse reasonably priced (good 300W I feel will do, but which amongst the thousands?).

But I would like to go back to my big issue, i.e: +5v FP ??? What's FP ? And in comparison to an ATX PSU w/FSB/FSP--what??

Thanks tA, you certainly have me thinking.

Scott

Seasonic makes good quality, reasonably priced 300W units.

I'm pretty sure that is the 5VSB (standby).

Been all over the net looking for answers over the last four or five days -- nothing.. I don't want install this new stuff and somewhat expensive hardware till I'm sure tA.
