So my psu shut down I turned it back on then a pop I opened the case and smelt it smelt like burnt. How do I check if my components are okay? I am getting a new psu soon.
No I just smelt inside of it. Now that I think about it I think it came from the psuDid you locate where the smell comes from?

Does that mean everything is fine?Maybe it was the PSU's fuse blowing.
The motherboard should be OK.
Does that mean everything is fine?
What about my Hard drives? Should they be fine?Yes, I believe that the motherboard and connected components are ok, there are protection measures implemented on both PSU and motherboard.

Okay thanks a lot!If the motherboard is fine, your drives are fine.
I’m going to take it out tomorrow I’ll let you know which psu it isIf your PSU had proper protections, your components are likely fine (though nothing's a guarantee). If you have a junk PSU, protections may be poorly configured, absent, or -- which happens on the junkiest -- are simply made up. If you tell us what PSU have, we may at least be able to give your chances.
The ultimate test, of course, will be a new PSU.

The only way to know is with a new PSU.A ATX-PR600W Apevia is the psu
Anything could be damaged, you buy junk you get junk results. On most quality power supplies they would probably be nothing damaged but still could be.What about my Hard drives? Should they be fine?
It came from my prebuilt psu I just wanted to upgrade all of it I was going to get a new psu then it poppedAnything could be damaged, you buy junk you get junk results. On most quality power supplies they would probably be nothing damaged but still could be.

Do you know my chances of my stuff surving are?One of the main issues with low end prebuilts.
Crappy PSUs.
Somewhere between 0% and 100%.Do you know my chances of my stuff surving are?
That there is no way to tell, until you get a good working PSU, and test everything. What does that mean?
Dang it I hope mine is fineThat there is no way to tell, until you get a good working PSU, and test everything.
No "percentage" can be predicted.
I've had a crappy PSU die, and take out a good motherboard with it.
I think we all do, but they don't want to give false hope.😉Dang it I hope mine is fine
Yeah I’m scared because If it took the whole system I wouldn’t be able to have a pc for a whileI think we all do, but they don't want to give false hope.😉
