Hello people of tom's hardware!

My specs:

Asus M5A78L-M LX
AMD 960T Black Edition 3.0GHz
HIS HD 6850 IceQ X Turbo 1GB GDDR5
2x Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory Module Non-ECC CL9 1.5V
HANNS-G HH221DP
Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Barracuda Hard Drive 7200RPM

Powercool 550W 80plus Certified Efficienty PSU - Manufacture ID PSUPC550AUBA

I used a power calculator and got an estimate of 500W (I rounded it up).

I wish to ask you wonderful people on what PSU you could advise me on getting.

The PSU I currently have is a cheap 35 pound thing: http://www.ebuyer.com/160349-powercool-550w-80plus-certified-efficienty-psu-1x-pci-e-4x-sata-psupc550auba
I recently bought the 6850 and have had random reboots (I uninstalled the drivers correctly, used CCleaner etc.) and I keep getting these random reboots where the screen goes blank or blue with vertical lines and reboots.

The video card is less than 4 days old, so.... and every other component is less than 5 months.

I posted on another thread for help but none has helped. So the last option is to obtain a new PSU in hopes that these issues go away! Plus I'm worried about the current PSU as it is a cheap piece of junk.

I choose this PSU as a replacement: http://www.ebuyer.com/200489-coolermaster-gx-550w-psu-rs-550-acaae3-uk
Why? I saw it as the cheapest option on 'AMD's Certified Power Supply List'. Do you think the GX 550 is any good? I might one day upgrade to a better video card, to keep up with the games so is it worth this PSU or a bit bigger?

My budget is 50 to 60 at the most - excluding delivery charges. So max of 65/70 in total.

Does AMD's certified PSU list mean anything or is it just to help sell?

Many thanks everyone!

Dan

**Sorry for spelling - these past four days have been a crazy :(

Thanks for the reply!!!

Will this work? I'm just worried about the stupid 'Amd certified power crap'

I was also looking at this:

I don't really understand Power wise, someone told my that the my curernt PSU could only supply up on 320W on a single dual rail.

http://www.ebuyer.com/160349-power [...] upc550auba

So do you guys think, powerwise it was just not enough to able keep the system up? I could play a game for a hour or two but then I'm doing small things and it would reboot on me.
If the new PSU doesn't solve my problem I think I will give up and as for a refund. :(

Good to lose the powercool they are basically doorstops with a power socket added.

600W is overkill for that system though a decent 550 or 500 would do

http://www.cclonline.com/product/60911/OCZ-ZS550W-UK/Power-Supplies/OCZ-ZS-Series-550W-80-Bronze-Power-Supply/PSU0243/
£45.85

or if you prefer modular

£61.96

AMD certified power is a meaningless tag don't worry about that.

Excellent! Thanks abekl.

I don't want to close this thread jsut yet, I would like to see if someone could explain to me the wats and ampers. I always assumed if: sys x needed about 450W then any 500W PSU would do. I guess I'm very far off the mark!

Thanks again!

Many thanks, I like the £45, I've spent quite a bit and I didn't really want to spend, why is 45 adn the other near £60, their more or less the same aren't they.

Thanks again, wr6133 and everyone else for looking!

Sorry for the spam of messages I;m sending!

Single and dual. All i know is that single is split into the dual, so both are proving half of what the single was. What is the point of this?

On the 2 I linked? The pricier one is modular (removable cables) some people like that as it makes cable management easier other than that they are indeed basically the same.

Have you tried unlocking that 960T yet? you may get a 6 core 1600T :D
