PSU shorted out, possible GPU damage?

I recently sold my R9 270x GPU on the internet. However, 2 days after the buyer got it he sent it back arguing it was defective because his PSU shorted out.

I naively accepted to give him a refund and get the GPU back.

When it came back this morning, I plugged it in and nothing seems immediately wrong with it. The fans spin and the image output is flawless. Been playing The Witcher 3 for about an hour.

My question is, could the PSU short-circuit have permanently or temporarily damaged the GPU in any other way? Thanks in advance.

That would be a good assumption.
If that buyer had a cheap generic PSU with inadequate or no protection circuits and the graphics card drew more power than the PSU could safely output then the PSU would most likely explode.

You seem to have confirmed that there is no damage to the graphics card.

most (if not all) modern (i.e. ATX) PSU has circuit breaker(s) to prevent further damage from PSU short-circuit. so if the short-circuit happened in the PSU than most likely it doesnt fry other devices connected to it. most short-circuit related problems that i've seen is because poor maintenance, dust and humidity(water) dont go along well with electric devices.

I noticed reduced performance on TW3, though I tested it with other games and they run fine. Must be a driver issue.
I'm on the clear then? No visible damage means no damage at all?
