Hey guys,

Hopefully your expertise can diagnose this problem. Overclocking or not I'm getting the Kernel Power 41 error with system hangs and automatic restart.

System Specs:
Windows 8/8.1 (I had this problem on both systems)
Corsair vengeance case
Motherboard: Msi x79a gd45 plus
CPU: Intel 4820k
Intel liquid cooling
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16gb ram
GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 780
PSU: Kingwin 750 watt (output 730 watt)
WD Blue 1 tb 7200 RPM sata HDD
WD 1tb 5400 RPM sata HDD (only just added yesterday but the system crashed 17 times before this addition)

The only overclocking I do is with the GPU Tweak program I got from Asus. However, as I said I don't always overclock as it's not really needed but I'll still get this error. Do you guys know if my PSU is putting out enough power? I have no idea how to check that. It may be causing this error according to Microsoft. Apparently pinpointing this problem is tough. I just built this computer last week so it's a fresh install of Windows 8 with only Steam and Origin games installed at this point. Help me out! Thanks!

The supply is definitely capable of powering the system, but you may be looking at a faulty PSU rather than one that simply can't output the required wattage.

I ran the P3 Kill-A-Watt unit in front of my own PSU and found that the system in my config (hover over my name at the left to view) only draws about 370-390W at full load. Comparing my specs with the ones you posted above, I would hazard a guess that the power draw from the wall would be roughly the same. Not nearly enough to give the power supply any purely output related issues.

Thanks Prophecy! Well the power supply shouldn't be faulty. I brought it to a local computer store to have it tested (It's where I bought the PSU so it was free). Great to know that it's not the PSU causing this problem though. Any other thoughts as to what is causing this error? I see many different topics about the error on TomsHardware.com but few seem to be resolved or address my issues. Could it be my hardware interacting poorly with Windows 8/8.1? Or maybe a faulty OS install?

I'm also getting a real headache with the Kernel 41, to the extent I replaced my 3 year old Silverstone 1000 Watt, with Corsair RM 1000 watt. I'm still getting random hangs even just surfing the net! I then have to hard reset my system. Sometimes system won't boot clean I then have to turn off the power let the system sit for a few minutes before turning power back on and restarting??

Check if you are running two firewalls at the same time. Windows 8/8.1 has a built in firewall and if you have installed some kind of antivirus software with firwall you'll get bluescreen. I shut down my AWG firewall and run Windows 8 firewall only. My Acer Aspire V3-772G is now very stable.
