JG (now) works for corsair and probably wants to keep his job, I still consider his other non-corsair related reviews reliable.

Not sure when JG went to work for Corsair.

The review of the CX750M unit was posted by OklahomaWolf on Mon, Mar-02-2015.

If that's your best shot, I'll remove both of your posts.

Anyone can search with Google and find something that supports their prejudged opinion but here at Tom's and specifically in this thread, we depend on evidence.

Put up or shut up.

Welcome to the world of commercialism. For the record, Jonny working for Corsair is the reason Wolf took over the review duties. To keep it "impartial". Yeah, right. And also for the record, Jonny knows his business. That doesn't mean it's translating entirely into the impartiality or accuracy of any reviews though. I'd not be the one to second guess either of those individuals, but the proof is in the pudding, as they say.

Jonny has not done a power supply review since he went to work for Corsair. Oklahoma Wolf and Tazz do all the reviews and have for years. I do not question the impartiality of his site. There is usually little variation between the conclusions the guys at jonnyguru make and those found at the other few top level review sites.

And the CX series was introduced in early 2009 to glowing reviews from everyone.

I just managed finally to get an EVGA 850W G2.. partpicker predicts my power use to be between 120W and 500W but I firmly believe a bigger power supply lasts longer.. plus who knows what the future might bring? Plus it was only £20 more than the 650W. It seems laws and regulations seems to be driving toward lower energy use.. but I just believe that a supply will last longer if not stressed. My last 650W supply (Enermax) lasted ten years of near near 24/7 use in a system that never used more than 300W at peak.

I read a post on the JG site where a poster said Oklahoma Wolf was JG!? He was not challenged.

This. About the only time we've seen this is in the old days, JG did a roundup of cheapies in which one or two of them were well-used units.
The problem here is that the CX tests well when new, and not just at JG. I'd very much like to see one-year old PSUs tested. This will likely make a definitive statement on the importance of quality capacitors.
It might also be interesting to pluck units out of Newegg's RMA stream, and see how they failed to measure up.

I have two old hi-fi amplifier at home. Both used everyday, one of them is on all the time 27/7 except holidays. 18 years. Caps are fine.

I have a CX750M and an EVGA 850W G2... latter has yet to be built up, former is fine, but it would be.. it's in a system never pulling more than 300W.

Is it not true that the 'capacitor plague' was likely just a myth? You know, Taiwanese employee steals formula but formula is incomplete blah blah blah bulging failing caps? I would imagine all those failures were more down to just Chopsticks egg fried noodle cost-cutting/poor manufacturing, something I would hope has since been rectified.....

I have the Corsair AX760i and, personally I would not class this as a Tier 1 PSU. Mine keeps shutting off for no reason. Googling around and it is affecting a lot of users. I am now looking at the EVGA 850 G2.

As a result of the evidence shown by MarkW and the rest of the community, the Corsair CX units have been moved to Tier 4. They have gotten drastically worse since CX Rev.2 (Switch from Seasonic to CWT stage).

Thank you.

This needed to happen long ago. Glad they are tier 4 now. :)

I own two Alpine 600W power supplies that I bought over three years ago. They have worked fine for me costing only £19-23 each. I didn't see them on your list?

Tier 5. They are shockingly bad quality units.

Admonishment sent to Amazon, which I'm sure will be promptly ignored despite the potential legal issues it could raise.

Somewhat shockingly, the Amazon marketing department contacted me back asking for a few details, which I relayed as per our earlier conversation, and they agreed they would update the product information to correct the inaccuracies. I guess wonders do actually happen sometimes. We'll see if they actually implement the changes but I don't think they'd have bothered to contact me and ask questions if they had no plans to follow through. Huh. Surprising to say the least.

Whats the story on the Corsair GS units? Got another one here that appears to be powering down just like the CX units do, but they are not on this list anywhere.

PSU: Corsair GS-700 V2 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2724197/kernel-power-error-event-task-category.html

I looked up the video card, and it recommends a 500w PSU. So this is another unit that's got at least 200w to spare, yet its powering down... Or so it seems anyways. I am holding off on responding until I get more info.

Sounds like the GS is a slightly better version of the CX but it still looks crap from the stuff I was reading. Probably best to go with a AX i or HX i even though I would never want to use one in my system. It also seems that some people have capacitors made from 2 different makers inside of the GS.

Then again this is more of a biased post about them.

Also from what I see on YouTube with this PSU is that it has more problem videos than unboxings or review videos.
