Which of these two cards would be the best for pure rendering in apps such as Vue, Bryce. Evega 9800 GT or Quadro FX 380. Thanks for any and all help!!!

Usually rendering programs are dependant on the CPU and RAM only. The video card is only used to output the finished result. I'm not familar with those programs however, one or more of them might take advantage of CUDA or something like it. Check the programs you use and see if this is the case. If its not, just get something cheap.

Actually, the work done with rendering can be helped quite a bit with a quadro. I know for me to render and manipulate a figure at work it saves me enough time over the long run to put up with the higher initial cost. The problem is that that card is crap. A fx 380 is like the most basic of basic workstation cards.

Tom's did a workstation card comparison back in april that is still somewhat relevant: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/quadro-fx-4800,2258-11.html

Just realize to get performance in rendering your cost is going to be much higher than you are used to when purchasing a traditional geforce card.
