Hi I have a home server running windows 8.1 and have seagate 4tb drives, what I am really confused is should I put the drives to sleep when not in use cos of energy savings? and if I do it the thing that worries me is that I would kill the drives. The drives are in a pool using stablebit drivepool thanks regards

Normally hard drives fail on the spin up. Servers keep the HDD's running constantly and if they are running for years and then shut down there is a good chance the drives won't spin back up. This is why they usually only reboot the servers not shut them off for an hour and restart them.
