i have an asus A7V8X (bios1012) and a coolermaster AERO7 hsf (w/manual speed
adjustment)

if i manually set the aero7 fan to 3000 RPM (bit noisy) and, enable q-fan in
the BIOS, nothing changes

have set q-fan to 10/15 ratio and 16/32 up/down response time

ps: this used to work when i was using an AMD retail heatsink/fan

Does it get power directly from the PSU? For Q-Fan to work, the cooler
must get power from the motherboard. I think this cooler is connected
to the motherboard just for monitoring, and gets power from PSU. This
is quite normal for coolers with manual speed adjustment because some
motherboards will report fan failure when the speed change, and some
also when the speed goes below a given speed, e.g. 2000rpm.
