Q6600 -GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L - wierd issue

Hi all,

I am having some trouble overclocking my setup. Not only that, but I have a weird situation I can't figure out that I am sure has something to do with the motherboard.

Setup
Q6600 default settings
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Thermal take air cooler
XFX6800 Geforce

Weird problem - When my computer is just doing basic task..it defaults to a low mhz (1600) , and for example, when I run prim95 stress test, it immediately jumps to 2400...There is no setting in my BIOS that is on that would do this so does anyone have any ideas?

Overclocking - I am currently at x9 = 2400 I think thats 266. My timings for memory and voltage are set to auto. When I up the clock speed say 288x9(even a very very small amount does this) the computer does not post. It will try twice then reset to factory.

I read some, well most of the stickied Q6600 article but I am not sure if I will have to change all my timings and voltages? Anyone have this setup that can throw me some advice?

That is Intel's Speed step. Much like cool n' Quiet. Every motherboard has an option for this but you must look in your CPU configureation menue to disable EIST. When your CPU dose not have a load it will downgrade to a 6x multi and reduce the voltage saving you power.

And I have the Asus P5Q-Pro but as far as I know all motherboards have a way of turning off EIST. Some call it EIST some may call it Speed Step.

Thanks for the response. I checked the BIOS again and there is no setting like this. Well, there is one setting which I guess controls the CPU throttling but its disabled.

An additional note, if I change any setting in the BIOS it will not boot..so wtf ? For instance, I overclock it to 2.45 for example it will not boot. I am not sure why this is the case.

Currently I am at 2.8 with a vcore of 1.26 and a DRAM voltage of 1.9 - For my memory it states the voltage should be 2.0 - 2.1. Are there any bad side affects of undervoltage ?]

no bsod yet but I raised it to 2.0 even and bumped up the core speed to 2.8..20 min into the stress test so far.. temps are not bad.

Another question about the memory.

It is not running at the full 1066mhz..its doing 994mhz I believe..can this fall into the same problem category with the voltage?
