Right now I am on a Phenom 9950 BE and am wondering if it is worth the switch to a Q6600 (which Ill lap) on a ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo, I mean, will the be a significant difference?

Using a Coolermaster V8

I answered a similar question yesterday. In your situation, definitely no. If you were considering going to Phenom II or Core i7, maybe.

The switch you are considering is simply not worth it. The processor you currently use may not be the fastest on the block, but is probably sufficient for the time being. Going to a Q6600 does not make sense because your not really taking any steps forward in technology. It might be faster, but it is still old tech. It makes more sense to go to a new CPU series from Intel or AMD because that's what will be more future proof. It will come at a high $ price though. I think you should wait till prices on the newer CPU's and motherboards drop.

To wrap it all up, I don't think that switch will give you a big enough difference to justify doing it.

If you have the budget for an i7, defiantly go with it...But if you want to keep the budget low and have high performance, go with the 955, it has high overclocking potential...The 940 would be also very good if you are looking for an even lower budget build, it's just that you will have to overclock it more to match the performance of the 955...
I say, chose what you can afford so you won't be sorry in the end...The 940 and 955 will come very close in performance and should fit your needs...but if you want extreme horsepower, take the i7 and overclock it...
Good luck choosing :)

Actually, the AMD 955 performs often better then the i7 920 and it's way cheaper. One thing it doesn't perform better in is 3DMark, but 3DMark has always favored Intel processors for some reason.

Acually you could add the 45nm C2Q's too. But the Q6600 dose perform better than that Phenom 9950.

i think the phenom would do just fine.I had a phenom 9850 and it did all the stuff i needed then...but the only -ve point was it heated up a lot..and so it got busted one fine morning.
If your use ur pc for the stuffs like gaming, browsing...etc etc the common stuff...then the phenom would be great for it.
If you are going for the more intense stuffs u should be better off upgrading to a core i7.....if money is the barrier then i suppose phenom II would be a better option..
the q6600 is off the chart mate.

If you get the Phenom II 940 or 955, trust me...you won't be disappointed...but if you got the molla, you wont be disappointed with the i7 either...Now it's time to chose...lol...

I agree, if you are satisfied with DDR2 ram then the 940 is a no-brainer... In one month the 940 should be around the 160.00$ range...

As far as spintel goes, i would not spend a penny till the i5's come out....
