Q8200 + Ballastix DDR3 1600mhz

I was wondering what should I start with for overclocking this processor using the FSB and voltages changes. I had corsair XMS3 1333mhz and it overclocked beautifully to 2.8 stable (without any voltage change to the ram or the vCore) but with this crucial ballistix DDR3 1600mhz i can not raise the FSB without it freezing.

Change the RAM from Auto to manual and set all the specs of the RAM manually in the BIOS.

Yeah I'm stumped I should technically be able to jus set FSB to 400 mhz and it should work right or was it a waste of money buying 1600 mhz ram to overclock?

Not really, a higher RAM is better for overclock with FSB

Yesterday I got my Q8200 up to 2.8 GHz, but I'm using DDR2 RAM, and I'm afraid it will damage the board if I OC it more, u know, the FSB will be over 1600..

you can overclock up till 1800mhz.. as my experience. i have couple single channel 2g 1600mhz hyperx. it stable on 1760Mhz.

That will depend on the motherboard.

Stefan, running the FSB too high will not damage the board. At some point, it will just stop working.

Increasing voltages is a different matter. Too high of a voltage can fry components.
