Hello everyone at Tom's Hardware community.

i create this thread to share with us a problem that has been concerning me since i bought my router, i have a Linksys E1200 V-2 Router, i bought it from Amazon in march of 2015.
In my free time im used to play online games like battlefield3 and dota2, so, here's my trouble:
i get tons of lag when my roomate uses the internet, if he browses by his laptop i get lag, if he uses instagram-snapachat-facebook-twitter on his phone i get lag.. i tried to do everything i could in the setup and anything seems to work..

I set up the QoS putting priority over MAC to my desktop (Wich is connected by the LAN1 port of the router)
I set up the Service priority for Dota2 and battlefield 3 in the QoS setup.
I set up the netmask priority of my computer.

i tried even to put 1kb up/down to the output internet speed of the QoS and still doesnt work :fou:

heres a screenshot of my settings in QOS

Extra details:
My contracted internet connection is 2MB/s (
My download speed is isually 150kbps in a good day, 90-120kbps normally.
Dunno my upload speed..
Since im from venezuela english isn't my main language, so, sorry for the misspelling and the bad written texts 😛

Greetings, thanks if u read this<3

With such a small internet connection it will be very tricky to get a QoS setting that will work. In effect you are going to have to block his access.

So lets say your game need 500k up and down. If you only have say 750k upload speed you are going to have to limit him to only 250k so that 500k is available at all times for your game. You will have to do similar on the download side.

The problem is a very complex topic related to burst rates. The problem is these numbers are averaged over time but what you need to ensure is that even a maximum level he never goes over. Since these routers do not support peak rate limiting you must set the value even lower to ensure your game always gets the bandwidth.

With a connection as small as yours you might as well just use the filters and completely block his access when you are playing games. Obviously he will not find this acceptable I suspect. You only solution really is to get a faster internet connection your is barely large enough for 1 person to use.

Okay, em, i shall take the MAC Adress of all clients and then putting em on low-bulk priority, right?
Doing this for today and i will answer tomorrow with the results. Thank you for answering!

kinda hard on Venezuela to contract a better internet connection, Minimum Salary is 24.000 Venezuelan Bolivares, and 10MB connection (no fiber) is around like 4500 Venezuelan Bolivares, that left you 19.500 to buy food, pay for transport and the service bills.

Yep, we re fuck*d up here, i dont wish this to anyone.

Thanks for answering! 😉

Hello, i did it, by MAC adress, put all the mac adresses in bulk priority, added my MAC adress and putted EXEMPT priorty to it, but it simply slows all my internet, even the LAN and WAN internet are slowed, seems like the router puts bulk priority to everything..
PD: Assigned 10 Kbps to Upload and 25 to download.. that'll do for simple web browsing and social media without heavy content.

QoS won't work well if your pipe quality is poor coming in. You're paying for 2000Kbs but only getting 150Kbs.

Your rules have to be based on what you're getting.

Gaming is always on UDP. You can create a pipe for all UDP traffic. I don't know if there is enough bandwidth to work with.
