I have little issue with the retail prices for the full package.

At home I have 7 Windows Vista Ultimate PC's. I have always felt very ripped off by this operating system - a serious premium for next to no additional features other than a little eye candy. Lots of promise from Microsoft for little delivery.

I have been using W7 RC since its release. In terms of what it offers me as a direct advantage over Vista? There is nothing. The most frequents issues I have with Vista - BSOD's due to bad 3rd party drivers, the mess that is the Windows registry, application movement and networking access remain IDENTICAL under Windows 7.

In this market and environment, I simply cannot justify the upgrade costs of 1500.00 due to the absolutle lack of management and functional productivity gain over Vista.

Microsoft sell as crap in name of vista and now they offer so call Windows 7 (Vista Second edition) for $$$$$ !!!!!!!!!!!!! it has to be free as update not sell by saying upgrade Microsoft made vista crape and now they has to pay us back as windows 7

So instead go buy a Technet subscription - I believe they are even on sale right now - and then you can install Ultimate on every PC in your house as long as it is for personal use.

As someone who fell for the "get-Vista-extras" with Vista Ultimate pitch (and unless you like Texas Hold'em, there were no fun tweaking utilities or applications that came of it), I feel that asking over $200 for an upgrade is simply an insult. You shelled out the extra money to jump on the Vista Ultimate bandwagon, you stood up for the operating system when others called it a disaster, and you got none of the promised extras. For goodwill's sake, why don't they make a price cut for Windows 7 Ulitmate the "extra" they originally promised?

A rip off. Folks who paid for Vista - a system that did just pain not work well - should get W7 for free.
Vista was such a pain in the butt, and windows 7 is really a bug/design fix.
I hope there is a class action against MS on this.

Compare this to apple - they are allowing leopard users to upgrade to snow leopard for $29. Leopard worked very well. Well enough that you may choose not to upgrade. Vista users have not choice - it is piece of !@#$; one has to upgrade.

I designed, tested, and manufactured Media Center Servers professionally when the MCE UI was developed in beta many moons ago. The aggravations that Vista caused me after XP MCE caused blood to shoot out of every raging orifice of my being. At the time I was a Microsoft devotee and purchased several copies of retail and oem Vista Ultimate copies.

I waited and waited, but Microsoft never once gave me my money's worth for Vista Ultimate after nearly a year of unresolved (& maddening) NVIDIA/VISTA driver problems (TDR, anyone...anyone?) So I decided to buy an iphone and an imac.

I am running Windows 7 ULTMATE RC2 on VMWARE and although I appreciate that Microsoft has copied many of the already visual and simplified organizational structures of the Apple OS X Leopard operating system, I can't say that I see any tangible reason why anyone who was ripped off purchasimg Vista Ultimate should have to pay ANY MONEY AT ALL for Windows 7 Ultimate.

I was shocked and abhorred to find out that the fuckwads in Redmond think I should pay $219 for an upgrade that should be given away for FREE to those who wasted their money on a broken Vista OS that cost them time and productivity and NEVER delivered anything Ultimate, unless an ULTIMATE MIGRAINE, ULTIMATE PAIN IN THE ASS, ULTIMATE ULCER, or ULTIMATE PSYCHOSIS counts for anything.

I sold my XBOX 360, my $6000 media server that I built, & my Creative ZEN MP3 PLAYER.

Just about the time I was considering drinking the shit-flavored Windows Kool-Aid again....I quickly had flash backs and remembered that I vowed to never give MS another dollar of my money ever again.

If you work for Microsoft and you are reading this then you are a fuckwad and you should considering suicide.

In the mean time I will wait for Snow Leopard which will leap frog Windows 7 when it's released in a few months.

Microsoft you can send all your hate emails to jcarcopo@live.com

I use MobileMe now and only use my live account for spam which is all it is good for.

MS OS pricing is terrible. $300 for an OS that has more bugs and less stability than a ~$30 mac OS or $0 Linux? When Linux runs games as well as MS OS then they are dead. Win7 will likely be their last OS before the death spiral and funeral.

It should be simpler like XP was. They should have two versions, Win 7 Home (equivalent to Win 7 Home Premium) and Win 7 Pro (equivalent to Win 7 Ultimate). There should be no upgrade version just simple pricing of US$50 and US$100 respectively. I am not going to spend over US$500 to upgrade all my family's computers. I will wait to see what OEM pricing is like or wait until I can get it free bundled with a new machine.

ALL of Microsoft is a rip off. Ultimate $320 plus sales tax + installation??
all, NOT JUST SOME, OF MY CUSTOMERS HAVE BALKED AND RANTED AT UPGRADING OR FRESH INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS 7.

Add to that, the fact that Microsoft is trying to control pirating?? Ha Ha!

Solution:
LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX

While prices for Windows 7 are better than Vista, I still think Microsoft could afford to drop them even more. As a few others have said, people are perfectly happy to pay to obtain legal copies of software - if it doesn't cost too much.
