[citation][nom]IzzyCraft[/nom]I love how people suggest pricing schemes for Microsoft, pretty dam sure their price is to maximize profits between vista, windows 7 and pirated copies.Face it most people who pirate shit don't care what price it is even it's at 20 dollars a pop they still don't want to pay money for things they can steal, it's just easier for them to justify stealing it by the large price for it, face it they are just cheap people with low moral standards. Hell most people would be good with OEM retail only counts for enthusiasts who reactive windows 2-5 times a year for various reasons, formats and new parts etc.The prices are good enough for me, not necessarily happy but when i see a torrent for windows xp and vista downloaded over 10k times i see where they need to make up money.[/citation]
It makes sense to me because why would people buy Vista after Windows 7 comes out? They should just stop selling Vista (still support it for people who run it), and sell Windows 7. Businesses have had plenty of time to test it, its more secure and its faster.
On the note of pricing I think for people who already have Vista they should charge $49 and $99. I say this because Vista wasn't a blockbuster seller and to give good initiative for people to buy it those should be the regular prices for upgrade (or at least for digital download upgrade and make the physical disk $65 and $120). I have a friend who has 3 computers. I told her about the pre-release and she...being layman home user...doesn't feel comfortable putting beta software on her computer. I know many people who feel the same way. Plus if I didn't tell her that Windows 7 was in Beta she would never have known. So she's going to think about buying it when it comes out, but only for her sons computer because she can't afford for all 3. How many people are actually finding out about the free beta? How many are willing to try it out or even know how to after downloading know how to put an ISO on a DVD (Or even know what an ISO file is). So first people need to know about the Beta, then they need to know how to install the beta via ISO. Most people unless they know someone isn't going to do that. Then they have to hear about the special offer, which unless they know someone like you or I probably won't be reading about it because you mention tech to a lot of people and they're eyes just glaze over. This is why I'm saying they should keep...for people using vista...the price low. They can have regular price for full version, thats fine.
I'm not going as far as GenKhan2 who's saying the price should be almost free. I know MS has to make money off of it since they are a software developer. They will make up the money by selling to Corps, OEM's and people who are going to buy the full version. I think by selling the upgrade at a higher price will ultimately fail because people will figure they'll stick with XP or if they're happy with Vista. Its all about marketing and trying to get people to buy Windows 7 and want to upgrade from XP.
