I have just moved to FTTH using the Utopia line, with Xmission as my provider. I have signed up for 10Mbs down, 2Mbs up, and actual speeds fluctuate between 8Mbs and 9Mbs down, with the 2 Mbs up being pretty constant. My cost per month is $39, as my wife is a teacher and that nets us a $3 discount...

I have found that I can do more at one time, and do not get the top end speed from everyone... I realize they are probably limiting their upload bandwidth to make it so others can connect as well, so I won't get my 10Mbs from hardly anyone... I do like being able to download the latest Ubuntu distro and watch TV episodes in full HD at the same time though, so I don't really care that I don't get to download things in the full bandwidth that I have available.

I've got Verizon FIOS 20mb/5mb service for $55/mo plus tax. I used to have 20mb/20mb service but cut back due to the economy. We also have 50mb/20mb service available for $140/mo but I feel that is a rip off which is why I stayed away from that package. 🙂

have rogers light ~ 1 down .25 up for 30/month

and on top of that i have to encript my torrents (linux distros) to get decent speed
on the plus side i can usually pull 1.2 down
yes i feel quite ripped off

Here in Lake Worth Florida, I get a solid 8m down and 1m up using Comcast. I pay about $150 bundled with 2 HD DVRs and every channel, including NFL Network and all movie channels.

Ummmm, let's see... Untill a year ago I had to pay ~100-120$ for a 1MBit flat-rate ADSL here in Croatia. This does include phone line and all, but for people like me (not interested in phoning, just surfing) it's what you had to pay.

Luckily, for last ~15 months I've been on new ISP which (like many new ISPs around the country) offers 3 MBps with phone, flat bandwith, for ~35$. And I'm happy.

Now... that's still double the price than in most US/Canada places, so please - just try to be happy with it 😛 And if I want 20/20Mbit that would cost me roughly 3500-4000$ PER MONTH, and without additional services. Soooo... I'll just leave you to be happy with your speeds and prices.

Anyway, I'll go take a look at official T-Com (Deutche Telekom subsdiary in Croatia which is the monopolistic b***ards that had my lines untill 15 months ago) official and current price list. It still offers same prices as year ago, which makes my heart feel better 😀 Oh, and they do offer "cheap" 24Mbit ADLS, but guess what, their 24Mbit/768kbit ADLS actualy offers

weird... I wanted to say that 24mbit is just 4mbit and 768kbit is halved to around 350kbit (download & upload).. i hope this time it gets posted :/

I have 1.5 Mbps up, 512 Kbps down. DSL. Yes, I am an ultra cheapo ATT internet user. I hate how they use Mbps and make you think it's MBps, which would be 8x faster.

Here in Seattle I,ve got comcasts new higher speed modem and if I run speed test to say Portland Oregon I get 10 ping 10mb/sec up 38mb/sec
down.Same test but to LosAngeles= 35 ping 5mb/sec up 28mb/sec down.
However,If I run dan Elwell,s broadband speed test its like half those speeds.
If anyone knows of any good (Long duration)internet speed tests let us all know.

15Mbps down/512kbps up for 43€/Month (equals to about 58$).

The speed is OK, the problem is the download cap of 25Gb/month (such low caps are pretty common with all providers in Belgium, I'm using Telenet)

At work, fiber optic 100/40 Mbps. up/down. It makes me sad to go to anything slower than 10 megabytes per second download.

At home, 10/10 mbps up/down. Usable for games.

100 Mbps connection.... My max achieved speed was 5MB/s down (yes...megabytes) and 1 MB/s up and I live in Romania. The price: 9 euros/month :) At first I didn't believe it myself, but it's true :)

The US and Canada should be happy with what they have right now. I remember when Comcast announced they would be putting on a limit of 250GB on their Internet. And people still complained. In Australia we're lucky to even get 50GB and a 2.5 MBPS ADSL2+! You shouldn't be complaining, and instead, be happy with what you've got.

Where I live in Upstate New York (relatively rural, with towns of about 1000 every 5 miles or so) we pay $80 for satellite because that's all we can get, and its only 1.5 mbps down / 256 kbps up. It also is capped at 17GB download, 7GB upload (per month, rolling). If you go over, you get lowered to dial up speeds.

Where I go to college in Boston, it's on the internet backbone, so I consistently get 250 mbps down / 250 mbps up on my speedtests to New York City (yes, 5x faster than FiOS) with gigabit LAN in the dorms, and I get excellent ping times (5ms from Boston to New York, 10ms to Washington DC). I can download a 700mb Ubuntu release in less than 30 seconds. They don't cap/limit/interfere with the network in any way either. It makes speed a non-issue, but also makes slow servers and servers located far away (west coast, across the oceans, etc.) really noticeable.

ha ha ha!! u ppl r in the US enjoyin atleast 5-6mbps, here i am in India where 256kbps is all we get! :| so please know the rest of the world first!!
