Hello ,I have a problem with a quad processor showing only 2 cores in device manager despite that it is showing 4 cores in the bios . I formatted the system but it didn't work ,could anyone help me please.

Open up msconfig, go to the boot tab, click on the advanced options button and see if the number of processors button is checked. If it is, make sure the number of processors is set to 4, or simply uncheck the number of processors checkbox, that should default Windows to the number of cores your CPU has.

Hello, I unchecked the number of processors in advanced options and restarted the pc and it did'nt work. Number of processors showed in the check box is either 1 or two only. What should I do?
Thanks anyway.

Which CPU do you actually have? Is it an actual quad core, or a dual core with hyperthreading. If it is any desktop Core i3 processor, any mobile Core i5 processor, or a Core i5 6xx series CPU, it is a dual core with hyperthreading. If that is the case, check to see if 'Intel HT Technology' or hyperthreading is enabled in your BIOS.

Actually I don't know the exact model of the cpu, but it is Intel core 2 extreme 2.666 ghz 8mb and the mainbard is msi p41 c33 DDR3.

Hello, i checked the performance tab and it is still showing2 cores and the exact model of the cpu is core 2 extreme qx6700 @ 2666 mhz 8m.
