Can i install a pcie 4.0 m.2 ssd with my current setup?
My mobo is a Gigabyte A320M S2H v2, it has PCIe Gen 3x 4. My processor is a Ryzen 5 3400g which i think its second gen.
Im confused because a bios update removed pcie 4 support for gen 3 Ryzen, but it dont know if i ever had pcie 4 support with my processor or if the drive will work, but at PCIe 3 speeds.

What specific BIOS update removed that?

Generally, drives are forward and backward compatible.

Then it would seem to be that no, you can't use a 4.0 drive with that board and CPU.

BUT......is that for the PCIe slots (where you put a GPU) or the M.2 port, where you put a storage device?
I's want confitmation from the manufacturer either way.
The changelog for F42 just states PCIe 4 support is removed, so it may just say that for the GPU slot. i already bought the drive thinking it would work because pci 4 is backwards compatible with 3. I will try it when it arrives.
I sent a support question to gigabyte asking if its for the pcie slots or both the m.2 and pcie.
