Hello,

I really don't know anything about this so i decided to ask the community

I have a Asus M2N68 Plus motherboard and i would like to buy AMD Athlon II x4 640 Propus 3Ghz CPU

Motherboard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M2N68_PLUS/#specifications
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871

I'v been reading motherboard specification and it says: "Due to the chipset limitation, the AM3/AM2+ CPU runs at HT1 (1000MHz).
This CPU is for AM3 socket and it says that the CPU has HT 4000mhz. What does this mean? Would i be able to use it at full speed?

I really don't know anything about this so i would be grateful if you could help me out.

Solution
yes you can use the cpu at full speed but the HT but would only run at 1000 which would slow down things just a little. So yes your cpu runs at full speed but your peripherals are limited due to the HT bus speed. And dont think they'll be half as slow, I said a little, not alot <grin>

Solution
hi!can anybody tell me straight forward whether i can use any triple/quad core processor with my M2N68-AM PLUS motherboard or not, because i'm having nightmare with my upgrading thoughts.

You didn't mention which motherboard revision or BIOS version you're using.

-> Open the M2N68-AM PLUS Motherboard link TheMill posted above.

Look at the CPU Support list on that M2N68-AM PLUS webpage.
Tell you what CPU runs on which motherboard revision and what version of BIOS is needed.
