Hello! Does Mint's Update Manager automatically let someone know if a new version of Mint is available? Kind of like with Ubuntu?

Thank you for telling me! Now, I have a few more questions and that should be it. What if the user doesn't have the Update Manager open? Will the Manager automatically open up and tell the user about the new version? And will it notify the user openly or subtly?

There is usually an icon indicator on the task bar that will show when updates are available.
