I have a Dell Inspiron 580 and would like to upgrade my RAM. I have 4gb and want to upgrade to 16gb. I scanned my computer and it says the maximum memory is 8192MB http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Dell/inspiron-580 My question is am I reading it wrong or am I stuck with 8gb.

It is for gaming if that makes a difference.

My Specs are:
Processor- Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07 GHz
Ram- 4.00 GB (3.80 usable)
System- Windows 7 64 bit
Monitor- Acer S200HQLbd 19.5"
GPU: Nvidia GTX 750 1 gb Superclocked

Memory-module capacities 1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB
Memory type 1066-MHz or 1333-MHz DDR3 DIMM; non-ECC memory only
Memory configurations supported 4 GB, 6 GB, and 8 GB
NOTE: Memory configurations of more than 4 GB require a 64-bit operating system.

If you now have four 1 GB memory modules, then to go to a total of 8 GB you will need four 2 GB modules. And a 64-bit OS. Please verify your OS.
