question about ram

Ive been thinking about adding more ram to my comp (its only at 128 right now) and as ive looked at the options i see theres several different types like 2100, ddr, sdr, and these terms are foriegn to me. I was hoping someone could give me some info on what they mean, and how to tell if its compatible with my comp?

SD = Single Data
DD = Double Data
The number refers to the speed of the memory in mega-hertz

Generally, if your computer or motherboard is older than 6 months, it uses SDRAM and is NOT compatable with DDR.
