Question on an older system

I have an older system that im currently using that i got at a yardsale. It has a amd 3800+ 64 bit and 1gb ram and onboard video. The question I had was. If i upgraded my memory to 4gb which is capacity, and the video card to a geforce gtx 550 ti. If this system would still be good for games. I think i remember 3800+ is equivilant to around 3.2 ghz, i know its not a dual core but I was wanting some opinions

still will do OK.... wont be steller of course but it will run better prob then it is now...

DDR ram is $50 for a gigabte. A tad expensive imo. The 550 ti would be bottlenecked by the cpu.

DDR 1GB is $8-10 on eBay. If you have 2 sticks on your motherboard get 4 sticks 1GB and replace the 2 you have (because they will be 512MB). The X2 3800+ is a good CPU. I've put 400 series cards in equivalent machines and had good results. The 550ti is a little overkill but you could transfer it to a new build someday.
