Questions for Crashman

Some of the older HP Pavilion ATX M/Bs have a P/S additional 3 wire connector that hooks into a terminal at the upper corner of the M/B, close to this terminal is the CPU Fan header, what is that terminal for?

And can you use a regular ATX P/S to replace the P/S, or does it require a HP specific replacement P/S, because of that wire?

Thanks Ryan

I've used standard power supplies in them, I think the extra wire is for fan monitoring...but why then it would have 3 wires rather than 1 wire on a 3-wire header, I know not. Still, I prevail at using standard power supplies in HP systems.

HP systems normally come with SFX or PS-III power supplies, which are both using ATX power standard.

Thanks I just didn't want to be responsible for blowing the thing up if that header turned out to be supplying power to the CPU fan header or something like that.
