OK, here's a quickie fix I just discovered for all you Y2K3 users out there.
I just played this fix on two missions (Combined Arms and Return to Eden,
both from the original CWC campaign), and it was smooth as a baby's behind.
Well, not that smooth--but light years from where it was before. I'd say
it's just a shade under (or about the same as what you would expect from)
the FDF mod (and the FDF mod is incredible).
I'm assuming, if you used the Y2K3 installer, that you have the Y2K3 set up
as a separate mod from your regular OFP play.
Go into your Y2K3 folder, and from the AddOns, take out these two ECP pbo's.
1) ECP_Blood.pbo
and
2) ECP_Effects.pbo
This removes many of the effects from ECP that are bogging down the game.
The pro to this is: You will reduce A LOT of lag from your Y2K3 game,
allowing you to use the mod on most mission (only the very big ones will you
have a problem).
The con is: Taking these out will probably not allow intro movies to play.
You'll get an error mission about the mission pbo's, but after you click
"OK", you can play normally. Also, you may get an error message when you
are playing (the first time someone gets shot, for example, when blood would
normally spurt), but you can again say "OK" to this--and that error box
shouldn't pop up again (even when the next person is shot).
That's the best we can do right now until we can get a Y2K3 without ECP (or
one that doesn't access the extra ECP effects).
Interestingly enough, SOME of the ECP effects ARE STILL IN THE GAME! Yes,
some of them still are, even with the pbo's mission. For example, you'll
see long trails of smoke on the vehicles, and they'll burn (maybe this isn't
an ECP effect--maybe it's some other script).
But, if you give this a try, I think you'll find that Y2K3 is very playable.
Check it out.

(PS If anybody discovers a better fix than this, then please e-mail me.
I'm very interested in the Y2K3 mod, and I'd like to use it. Whatever makes
it run better is what I'm interested in.)
